From false Spring to to true Spring: Why You May Feel More Irritable Right Now

As we move through the Spring Equinox, many people notice subtle shifts in their body, like feeling more tense, irritable, or restless. From a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) perspective, this is the transition from Winter into Spring.

Winter is associated with the Kidney system—a time of storage, rest, and deep, grounded energy. But as Spring begins, the body starts shifting toward the Liver system, which is responsible for movement, flow, and expansion.

The challenge? The environment hasn’t fully caught up yet.

This creates a kind of internal tension.

In TCM, this is known as Liver Qi stagnation: a time when energy that’s meant to move becomes slightly stuck. You might notice irritability or short temper, tight neck & shoulders or digestive changes. Or even just a sense that something is off.

From the Electric Body perspective, this is like current starting to move through the system but meeting resistance along the way.

How acupuncture and treatment can help:Treatment during this time focuses on:

  • Improving circulation and flow

  • Releasing muscular and fascial tension

  • Helping the body transition smoothly into Spring

The goal isn’t to force change but to support the body as it naturally shifts into a more active, outward state.

Simple tips to support yourself:

  • Gentle movement (walking, stretching)

  • Deep breathing to open the ribcage

  • Avoiding excessive stress or suppression

  • Keeping routines steady and consistent

If you’ve been feeling slightly more tense or reactive lately, you’re not alone—this is a very common seasonal shift.

Acupuncture and bodywork can help your system adapt more smoothly, so you feel more balanced, relaxed, and aligned as we move deeper into Spring.
